Santander Dealer Commercial Services (“DCS”) delivers integrated capital and banking solutions to automotive dealers nationwide, including floorplan financing, syndicated lending, commercial real estate, treasury, merchant services, and other commercial banking capabilities.

Position Summary

The Senior Underwriting Associate is responsible for managing credit risk and a portfolio of complex multi-dealer groups. The Senior Associate underwrites safe and sound loans in an expedient manner through a review process of analyzing and evaluating dealer financial statements and cash flow. They carefully assesses and evaluates the risk of financing requests within the framework of the organization's credit culture and current economic and industry trends. Analysis includes the review of corporate tax returns, as well as dealership financial statements to ascertain borrowers' financial position; ensures loans are in compliance with the organization's underwriting standards and all applicable bank regulations.

  • Independently underwrites and prepares accurate and concise proposals or modifications.

  • Manages each annual renewal and/or new business loan requests with the highest sense of urgency, while multi-tasking on multiple proposals.

  • Manages the complete end-to-end underwriting process to ensure timely and efficient processing of all annual renewals, modifications, and new business opportunities.

  • Receives and reviews incoming loan application requests and supporting documentation delivered through managed electronic lending portals, queues, or other avenues of receipt.

  • Analyzes financial statements, balance sheet, income statements, and cash flow of automotive dealerships, including company history, structure, and loan collateral.

  • Analyzes collateral, credit, and loan risk. Monitors portfolio and reviews up to date financials. Interfaces with customers and internal line of business partners to obtain data to complete analysis.

  • Reviews loan inquiries and respond to client requests.

  • Reviews and manages past due and coming due loan reports.

  • Utilizes cognitive thinking and properly applies line of business policies and guidelines.

  • Reviews loan documents.

  • Reviews credit memos completed by junior level staff before submission to department manager and senior management.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Management, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience – Required.

Professional Experience

  • 9+ years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, credit structuring and commercial underwriting – Required.

  • Experience evaluating credit risk, loan collateral, borrower financials, and lending requests within a commercial banking environment. – Required.

  • Experience managing multiple priorities and complex files simultaneously in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. – Required.

  • Experience preparing reports, proposals, or credit findings with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. – Required.

Skills

  • Financial statement analysis, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and corporate tax returns.

  • Credit analysis, loan structuring, underwriting, and portfolio monitoring.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and Outlook.

  • Loan documentation review and report preparation.

  • Analytical thinking and sound decision-making.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Detail orientation and accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Customer service orientation and professional stakeholder engagement.

  • Initiative, adaptability, and a collaborative, team-first mindset.

What Else You Need To Know:

The base pay range for this position is posted below and represents the annualized salary range. For hourly positions (non-exempt), the annual range is based on a 40-hour work week. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.

Base Pay Range:

Minimum:

$86,250.00 USD

Maximum:

$145,000.00 USD
